Conor Bruce is a Scottish born Artist raised in France, having no art background he enrolled onto the Artist Blacksmithing course at Hereford College of Art after falling in love with the craft. He has since become a process and materially-based artist exploring the serenity and timelessness of stone and the material properties of metal under extreme conditions.
Conor’s work is a collaboration between Maker and Material; the Material needs the Maker to work it so that it may find its form, and through the Material, Conor becomes a Maker. Makers turns matter into Material, sometimes literally. To create his pieces, Conor first creates the stock; this often takes more time than the forging. This sets Conor’s work up to be materially focussed, with most of the design process happening through making. Conor enables the material to express itself. This allows him to gain a deeper sense of connection and respect with the work.
